Time Out is Dave Brubeck's masterpiece for several reasons: one of them being his innovative use of unconventional time signatures in jazz, particularly the inclusion of unusual meters like 5/4, 9/8, and 6/4. It's a true innovation.By the late 1950s, jazz was in a period of evolution and experimentation: the post-war era saw jazz moving away from it's traditional roots and embracing new forms, styles, and influences. Dave Brubeck and his quartet were at the forefront of this movement, pushing the boundaries of what jazz could be.
